Re-elected in November 2006 by an overwhelming 74% of the vote, Ellie is now in her 6th term in the North Carolina Senate representing the people of Orange and Person Counties. She continues to push for good jobs and better healthcare security, for further campaign and lobby reform, for effective improvements in our education system and for a safe and healthy environment.

Ellie has received numerous awards during her time as State Senator, most recently Senator of the Year in May, 2009, one of the Green Tie Awards. This award, given by the Conservation Council of North Carolina, honors an elected official who is a leading advocate and policymaker in the area of environmental protection and natural resources. Senator Kinnaird was praised for her work on legislation calling for the implementation of a low-emission vehicle program and a moratorium on coal-fired power plants. The Subway restaurant in Southern Village earned the Certification from the Green Building Council

Ellie attended two local "green" events Monday, June 29, 2008. The Subway restaurant in Southern Village earned the Certification from the Green Building Council. This designation is for energy and water conservation building practices and a healthy environment for the employees and customers. The second event was a lunch at the Barbeque Joint made from a locally grown hog without the use of antibiotics.

The Pew Trust sponsored the event to announce the support of a bill in Congress, to which Rep. Price is signed on, to record and track the amount of non-therapeutic antibiotics in the environment, most of which are used to promote growth in animals in factory farms. (Ellie says the meat was delicious - much better than any she's ever had, which is saying a lot for a politician since that is our native food.) We are pleased to see such environmentally and health conscience commercial establishments in our towns.
